Abstract
In spite of its limited presence in official acts, the vicereines had a fundamental and prominent role in the viceregal court and in the relations of the rulers with novohispanic society. The constant mention of their activities in the diaries of noteworthy events is a demonstration that their role was not a secondary one and they were marked by a protocol whose object was to make evident the assets related to its gender and to the representation of royal power manifested in the viceregal couple.
