Abstract

•A new PI-PD control based on predictive functional control optimization is proposed.•The design is applied to chamber pressure control of coke furnace.•Improved control performance is achieved under model/plant mismatches.

In this paper, a new PI-PD method optimized by the extended nonminimal state space predictive functional control (ENMSSPFC) is proposed for chamber pressure in a coke furnace. The proposed design consists of an MPC design and the optimization of PI-PD control parameters, where the proposed PI-PD controller has both the advantage of ENMSSPFC and the simple structure as the PI-PD controller. The performance of the proposed PI-PD method is compared with several existing methods and tested on the chamber pressure in a coke furnace. The results show that the proposed PI-PD method has a better performance in the set-point tracking and disturbances rejection than those comparative methods.
