Abstract

Combination of accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) using ionic liquid (IL) 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([Omim]Cl) aqueous solution as extractant with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) has been developed for the analysis of organic acid preservatives such as benzoic acids, sorbic acid, and cinnamic acids in glace fruits. Parameters pertinent to extraction of the organic acid preservatives were optimized. Best results were obtained under the optimal extraction conditions (0.1 M of IL, extraction time of 5 min, and extraction temperature of 75°C). Under the optimal conditions, the detection limits (LOD) were in the range of 0.4–27.7 μg L−1. The proposed method was applied to extract the organic acid preservatives from different glace fruit samples, and the recoveries were between 78.2% and 113.9%. The experimental results demonstrated that the IL-based ASE method is fast and highly effective.
