Abstract

In this study, serum and urine samples from 20 BC patients and 24 normal samples as control were collected. The biomarkers for bladder cancer were screened by metabonomics and profiled by liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (LC-ESI/MS). The results showed BC patients were clearly distinguished from normal controls. 26 potential biomarkers were found out in serum and urine (13 each) using multivariate statistical analysis. Most of the potential biomarkers are common biomarkers existing in other diseases, however for the first time, to our knowledge, docosatrienol, azaprostanoic acid, and eicosatrienol were discovered in serum, and these new discovered biomarkers exhibit a huge potential for BC diagnosing. It is suggested that liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) based metabonomics with multivariate statistical analysis can be applied in human BC detection.
