The preparation of polyhydroquinone film modified glassy carbon electrode(PHQME) and its electrocatalytic oxidation to ascorbic acid (AA) were presented. Several parameters, such as polymer time, pH, and possible interference were investigated. The peak currents were proportional to the concentration of AA in the range of 3.34×10−5 − 1.67×10−2 M and 1.67×10−2 − 1.25×10−1 M with a detection limit of 3.28×10−6 M. The stability and repeatability of the electrode for the determination of ascorbic acid were also investigated. The method has been applied for the determination of AA in tablet, and the research of the mechanism showed that the hydrogen bond between AA and poly (hydroquinone) on the GCE was considered to be the main reason for the electrocatalytic oxidation.
