The effects of ethanol on properties of polyaniline (PANI)-modified electrode doped with planar binuclear cobalt phthalocyanine (bi-CoPc) were studied. The PANI films grown in the presence of bi-CoPc on different concentrations of ethanol were prepared by cyclic voltammetry (CV). CV, ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope (SEM) investigate the influences of the concentration of ethanol on spectra and electrocatalysis. The presence of ethanol enhances the electropolymerization rate and leads to finer structure of PANI films. It is found that the electrocatalytic activity of bi-CoPc-PANI-modified electrodes toward oxygen reduction is higher in the presence of ethanol than that in its absence.
