La estructuración de la química orgánica a partir de las teorías dual y unitaria: Una mirada Kuhniana

(Organic chemistry structuration from dual and unitary theories: a Kuhnian look)Reflections on how scientific knowledge and chemical development has been formulated and constructed, have led to an in-depth review and analysis about the nature of the theories, laws, models and concepts, which can be termed as the “conceptual structure of chemistry.” This work focuses on the review and analysis of both the dual theory of J. J. Berzelius theory, as well as the unitary one by A. L. Laurent, as potential structural axes of Organic Chemistry. In this sense, we try to reveal the confrontation of positions of empirical scientific communities representative of nineteenth century. The unitary theory — or antidualistic — has consolidated today as theory, to achieve assertive explaining of chemical phenomena, which has been not possible with the dual theory. Such revision of the two structural theories was made from an analytical perspective, which included the theoretical assumptions of Thomas Kuhn on the development of scientific knowledge. This account of scientific conceptions and preconceptions own of its time, on the “effective” matter composition, with an approach to different concepts of “weight” in the construction of such theories, which will hopefully reflect the historical-epistemological discussion on the chemical nature of scientific knowledge.

ResumenReflexiones en torno del cómo se ha dado la formulación, construcción y desarrollo del conocimiento científico químico,1 han conducido a una revisión y análisis en profundidad respecto de la naturaleza de las teorías, leyes, modelos y conceptos que han servido de base a lo que puede ser denominado como la “estructura conceptual de la química”. Este trabajo se centra en la revisión y análisis tanto de la teoría dual de J. J. Berzelius, como de la teoría unitaria de A. Laurent, como posibles ejes estructurantes de lo que será conocido como Química Orgánica. Así, se intentará develar la manera en que a partir del enfrentamiento de posturas y apropiaciones empíricas de las comunidades científicas representativas del siglo XIX, la teoría unitaria o anti-dualista se consolidó como teoría, al conseguir explicar de forma asertiva los fenómenos químicos que la teoría dual no. Tal revisión de las dos teorías estructurantes, se realizó desde una perspectiva de análisis, que contempló los presupuestos teóricos de Thomas Kuhn, en torno al desarrollo de conocimiento científico, lo cual se intentó reflejar lo largo de la construcción textual. Esto en consideración de las concepciones y preconcepciones científicas propias de la época, acerca de la composición “efectiva” de la materia, con una aproximación al concepto de “peso”, dentro de la construcción de tales teorías, lo cual, se espera, refleje la discusión histórico-epistemológica sobre la naturaleza del conocimiento científico químico.
