Abstract

•Fabrication of a recoil ion momentum spectrometer to measure angular anisotropies in ion-molecule collisions.•Characterization of the spectrometer for time and momentum resolution.•Preliminary results on angular anisotropy for fragments generated in ion-impact collision of N2.

A recoil ion momentum spectrometer has been fabricated for studying angular anisotropies in ion-induced molecular dissociation. The spectrometer is characterized for its time and momentum resolution by studying test cases of ion-atom and ion-molecule collisions. The typical time resolution is measured to be 2.9 × 10−3(Δt/t) and typical momentum resolution is of the order of 32 atomic units. Some preliminary results on the measurements of angular anisotropies in ion molecule collisions are presented.
