Abstract

•Synthesis of activated carbons from rachis of chicken feathers.•Study of storage of hydrogen on activated carbons.•Influence of temperature in the storage of hydrogen.•Characteristics of the activated carbons.

This research shows up the results obtained using samples of activated carbon synthesized from rachis of chicken feathers. The samples were characterized through nitrogen adsorption isotherms at −196 °C, FTIR, SEM and XPS. The samples have a BET area between 88 and 314 m2 g−1, showing a microporous and mesoporous structure. The results showed that the hydrogen storage was higher (3.5 wt/wt) in the sample obtained at the highest temperature (CFAC-450).
