Abstract

•Preparation of nanosized CoFe2O4 system by simple method. On other hand, preparation of magnetic CoFe2O4/PEVA composites.•Characterization of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles and CoFe2O4/PEVA composites by different techniques to confirm the formation of single CoFe2O4 phase and CoFe2O4/PEVA composites.•Determination of the magnetic properties of the as prepared systems.•Using the SEM and EDX to determine the morphology and chemical composition of the as prepared systems.•The possibility of the control in the magnetic properties of CoFe2O4/PEVA composites.

Various techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron micrographs (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) were used to investigate the structural, morphological and magnetic properties of spinel cobalt ferrite/poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) or CoFe2O4/PEVA nanocomposites. XRD enabled us to determine the structural parameters of CoFe2O4/PEVA composites. Nanocrystalline CoFe2O4 spinel were uniformly distributed throughout the matrix of PEVA. EDX measurements showed the concentrations of O, Co, C and Fe species involved in the as prepared composite. The magnetization and coercivity of these composites were changed according to the ferrite content.
