Abstract

Endothermic hydrocarbon fuel can work as a coolant to disperse the heat generated by the surface and engine of hypersonic aircraft, due to its endothermic pyrolysis reaction under supercritical conditions. Herein the cracking of the hydrocarbon fuel ZH-100 in a continuous tubular reactor under four pressures (0.1, 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 MPa) are studied. It was found that the conversion and the yield of gas product are lowest at the lowest pressure (0.1 MPa), the maximum value appears at 1.5 MPa, and the values at 2.5 and 3.5 MPa are intermediate and variable in order under different conditions. Methane and hydrogen are the most abundant components at atmospheric pressure and low temperatures. The light components in liquid product systems consist of numerous small alkenes, and the content of the light components can be promoted by increased temperature and pressure.
