Measurement of the eddy dispersion term in chromatographic columns. II. Application to new prototypes of 2.3 and 3.2Â mm I.D. monolithic silica columns

► We measured mass transfer in silica monolithic columns of the second generation. ► We used four 2.3 mm × 50 mm and 3.2 mm × 50 mm research samples. ► We determined the A, B, and C coefficients of the van Deemter equation. ► The minimum plate heights of these new monolithic columns ranges between 4 and 5 μm. ► The higher column efficiency is due mostly by a better radial homogeneity of the monolithic rods.
