Abstract

•The Schiff base ligands of 2-amino-3,5-dibromobenzaldehyde were synthesized.•Ni(II) and VO(IV) complexes of the ligands were prepared.•The thermal stability is increased according to the sequence: VOL1(ClO4)2 > VOL3(ClO4)2 > VOL4(ClO4)2 > VOL2(ClO4)2.

The tetradentate Schiff base ligands (L1–L4), were synthesized by reaction between 2-amino-3,5-dibromobenzaldehyde and aliphatic diamines. Then, nickel and oxovanadium(IV) complexes of these ligands were synthesized and characterized by 1H NMR, Mass, IR, UV–Vis spectroscopy and thermogravimetry. The kinetic parameters of oxovanadium(IV) complexes were calculated from thermal studies. According to the results of thermogravimetric data, the thermal stability of oxovanadium(IV) complexes is as follow: VOL2(ClO4)2>VOL4(ClO4)2>VOL3(ClO4)2>VOL1(ClO4)2VOL2(ClO4)2>VOL4(ClO4)2>VOL3(ClO4)2>VOL1(ClO4)2
