Abstract
•The UV emitting CaAl12O19:Gd3+ phosphor obtained at furnace temperature of 500 °C.•The emission band centred at 310.4 nm attributed to 6P7/2 → 8S7/2 transition of Gd3+ ions.•EPR and optical analysis reveal the presence of Gd3+ in the CaAl12O19 matrix.
The gadolinium doped CaAl12O19 phosphor has been prepared by a low temperature solution combustion method in a short time and characterized using powder X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive analysis of X-ray mapping, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and photoluminescence spectroscopic techniques. EPR and optical analysis of the sample confirm the presence of Gd3+ in the CaAl12O19 matrix.
