Abstract
⺠The addition of a methyl group to the butenyl chain of CH2CHCH2CH2OCH3 influences the Raman spectrum of the ether. ⺠A band at 3080 ± 3 cmâ1 ascribed to asymmetric vibration of the sp2 CH2 entity is associated with a terminal CH2C group. ⺠A band at 1641 ± 1 cmâ1 indicates the presence of a terminal CH2CH group. ⺠Extensive mode mixing occurs for vibrations that give rise to bands in the 300-700 cmâ1 region. ⺠The wavenumber of certain bands in the 300-700 cmâ1 region decreases as the methyl group is moved away from the oxygen atom.
