Abstract
We review recent advances in analytical methods for trichothecene mycotoxins in cereals and cereal-based food products with emphasis on their advantages and limitations. We describe several traditional methods based on chromatographic or immunochemical techniques, which allow sensitive, accurate analysis or rapid screening of major trichothecenes throughout the cereal-food chain. In addition, we discuss novel technologies for trichothecene analysis, including tandem mass spectrometry, fluorescence-polarization immunoassays, lateral flow devices, infrared spectroscopy and optical biosensors.
