Abstract
•Recent advanced Raman microspectroscopy techniques applied to microalgal detection.•Review of specific applications for microalgae based on Raman microspectroscopy.•Summarizing bands observed in the Raman spectra of microalgae.•Summarizing bands observed in the Raman spectra of contributing chemical compounds.
This article reviews some of the recent advances in Raman microspectroscopy applications in areas related to microalgal detection. Strategies based on Raman spectroscopy provide tremendous potential for non-invasive biochemical-composition analysis and imaging of living microalgal cells, in situ and in vivo. Raman microspectroscopy is extremely promising in terms of sensitivity.
