Abstract
We summarize the various techniques for suppressing the influence of mechanical disturbances in Michelson interferometers and describe the polarization interferometer in detail as an alternative. Since the best achievable resolution has to be pre-selected for polarization interferometers, we discuss the relationship between resolution and accuracy obtained for quantitative analyses in Fourier transform near-infrared spectroscopy.
