Abstract
Faced with increasing needs and limitations on resources for water-quality monitoring, emerging tools complement the traditional procedure based on sampling and laboratory analysis. Apart from their simple (on-site) use and affordability, they can be considered as sustainable development tools. We propose sustainability criteria for water-quality monitoring and assess some emerging tools for this purpose.
