Abstract

Anodic alumina oxide (AAO) nano-sieves were prepared. Surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra with very good quality of gold/C60 (/C70) nano-clusters deposited on the AAO nano-sieves were reported for the first time using pyridine as an intermediate to connect and nest the C60/C70 molecules to the gap of gold nano-particles and AAO nano-sieve. The enhancement factors are estimated to be enhanced more than 106. It shows from the experiments that the AAO nano-sieves deposited with gold particles are very effective as SERS substrates. It provides a new convenience for probing the vibrational structure and the physical properties of the fullerene or other similar molecules, in particular, the adsorption behaviour, and the interaction of fullerene with gold nano-particles.
