Abstract
Chelating compounds (etylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA)-type reagents) are broadly applied in many chemical processes. One of the possible applications is their use in the preparation of the catalysts. A short summary based on my own experience in the spectroscopic studies on chelating molecules interaction with the surface of inorganic oxides is presented. The application of spectroscopic techniques allow to describe the nature and type of interactions. Particularly, the experiments conducted by an infrared spectroscopy method deliver valuable information which is of great importance for the adsorption and catalytic investigations.
