Abstract
The properties of organic fluorophores are difficult to predict, even in simple cases. Fluorescent probes — which combine fluorescent properties with the equally challenging problem of molecular recognition — are even more difficult to develop. Combinatorial approaches to the development of such molecules are a new but promising endeavor, and reviewing the state of the art delineates the near-and long-term possibilities.
