Abstract

B4C, ZrOCl2 · 8H2O, and dilute ammonia were used as experimental materials to study the characteristics of Zr(OH)4-coated B4C synthesized by normal titration, reversing titration and hydrolysis. The effects of titration speed and pH value on the coating results of composite powders, and the effect of pre-calcination temperature on the composition of composite powders were studied. The study results indicated that the optimal effect of Zr(OH)4-coated B4C could be obtained by normal titration. In normal titration, the optimal effect could be obtained when the titration speed was 1 ml · min −1 and the pH value was 9. Adding Y2O3 could promote the formation of ZrB2. At the pre-calcination temperature of 1300 °C × 1 h, Zr(OH)4/B4C powder turned into ZrB2/B4C composite powder.
