Abstract

•Seebeck coefficient model for organic transistors was proposed based on Marcus theory.•Seebeck coefficient shows different dependence for variable polaron activation energy.•The effect of polaron on Seebeck coefficient may be comparable to energetic disorder.

A unified physical model for organic transistors was proposed to characterize Seebeck coefficient in terms of Marcus jump rate and variable-range hopping theory. Based on the presented model, the thermoelectric transport characteristic of charge carrier in organic transistors has been discussed in detailed. The simulation results show that the effect of polaron effects on Seebeck coefficient may be comparable to energetic disorder. The calculation also shows a good agreement with the experimental data in organic field-effect transistor.
