Abstract
A combined spectroscopic investigation of transition metal phthalocyanines (TMPc’s) has been carried out using electron energy-loss spectroscopy and photoemission spectroscopy. The results reveal an increasing impact of metal 3d states on the electronic properties of transition metal phthalocyanines on going from ZnPc to MnPc. In particular, the electronic states of FePc and MnPc close to the chemical potential are partly determined by a transition metal 3d state, which most likely has eg symmetry.
