Abstract

Highlight•BCFN-GDC composite cathode was prepared on GDC wafer by spin-coated method.•The thickness, component and porosity of the cathode could be controllable prepared.•The optimized synthesized condition for minimum polarization resistance was obtained.

BaCo0.7Fe0.2Nb0.1O3 − δ (BCFN)–Ce0.9Gd0.1O1.95 (GDC) composite cathode is synthesized on GDC electrolyte wafer by using a spin coating method. The effects of preparing conditions such as the spin coated times, the amount and size of pore former on the morphological features (thickness and porosity) have been systematically investigated by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. It is shown that the thickness, component and porosity play important roles in determining the polarization resistance of the composite cathode. The polarization resistance of BCFN-GDC composite cathode is 1.85, 0.62, 0.25, 0.14 and 0.05 Ω cm2 at 600, 650, 700, 750, and 800 °C under the optimal preparation parameters, respectively.
