Abstract
The impediment of electrochemical reactions is discussed by examining specific examples. It is shown that impediment leads to interesting and in many cases unexpected results. The impediment does not necessarily have a negative impact on the reaction, as the outcome can be a process of significant value such as in the NEMCA effect or in a mixed gas/single-chamber fuel cell.
