Abstract
High hydrogen pressure technique up to 1.2 GPa has been used for synthesis of novel hydrides in RFe2 Laves phases (R = Gd, Tb, Dy, and Ho) compounds as well as in pseudobinary ZrCo2 − xFex and YxDy1 − xMn2 Laves phases. Existence of new orthorhombic hydrides HoFe2H5, and DyFe2H5, isostructural with YFe2H5, was found, whereas GdFe2H5 and TbFe2H5 kept the cubic C15 lattice. Pseudobinary Zr(FexCo1 − x)2Dy (2 ≤ y ≤ 4) hydrides were synthesized and their stability was discussed as a function of Fe/Co content. It was revealed that the formation of non-interstitial YMn2H6-type Fm-3m hydrides is possible in the whole range of pseudobinary (YxDy1 − x)Mn2 compositions.
