•Review of the recent applications of the bis-trimethylsilylamide ligand in the chemistry of the p-block elements.•Brief historic overview of the development of this ligand.•Structural aspects of the ligand in the p-block elements.•Description of the synthesis and application of relevant examples of compounds containing this group.
This review examines the role that the bis-trimethylsilylamido group, [N{SiMe3}2]−, has had on the development of the chemistry of the metallic elements of the p-block. Key historic milestones are summarized, with the focus of the report on the structural aspects that this ligand plays on compounds reported in the last 15 years. It is preceded by article reviewing the structural chemistry of the bis-trimethylsilylamido ligand in association with the s-block metals.
