Abstract
In this review two areas of d6 transition metal ion chemistry and photophysics are briefly reviewed (i) that of Ru(II)dipyridophenazine (dppz) complexes as DNA intercalators and (ii) spin crossover behavior in Fe(II) complexes. In both areas the role of Raman spectroscopy in providing information concerning the spectroscopy and photophysics of the electronic states involved and the interactions between states of differing spin multiplicity is discussed.
