This review reports several types of potential metals (rhodium and ruthenium) carbonyl complexes of functionalized phosphine-chalcogen donors ligands like: P-X (X = O, S, Se) and their catalytic applications particularly in (i) carbonylation of alcohols, (ii) hydrogenation of unsaturated substrates and (iii) hydroformylation of alkenes for industrially important organic molecules.
Research highlights► Rhodium carbonyl complexes of chalcogen functionalized phosphine donor ligands. ► Ruthenium complexes of mono and multifunctionalized phosphine-chalcogen donor ligands. ► Carbonylation of methanol to produce acetic acid. ► Hydrogenation of unsaturated substrates to produce value added products. ► Hydroformylation of alkenes for producing industrially important organic molecules.
