•Two new compounds Ph2P(Te)(CH2)nP(Te)Ph2 (n = 3, 5) were isolated and characterized.•Rapid exchange of tellurium atoms between PCP ligands was observed in solution.•Activation energies of this process were determined for three different solvents.
The oxidation of Ph2P(CH2)nPPh2 (n = 1, 3, 5) by tellurium powder was studied. The prepared compounds Ph2P(Te)(CH2)nP(Te)Ph2 (1, n = 3; 2, n = 5) were characterized by 31P and 125Te NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy and for 2 by single-crystal X-ray analysis.
Graphical abstractThe possibility of oxidation of Ph2P(CH2)nPPh2 (n = 1, 3, 5) by elemental tellurium was studied. Two new compounds Ph2P(Te)(CH2)3P(Te)Ph2 and Ph2P(Te)(CH2)5P(Te)Ph2 were characterized by 31P and 125Te NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy and the latter by single-crystal X-ray analysis.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
