•Metal-organic framework (MOFs) as heterogeneous catalyst.•Size-controlled crystalline basic nanoporous IRMOF-3 for tetrahydro-chromenes synthesis.•A reusable green catalyst system using commercially available starting materials was employed.•Represents advantages, operational simplicity, higher yield, and environment friendly with easy workup.
Size-controlled crystalline basic nanoporous coordination polymers of IRMOF-3 (Zn4O(H2N-TA)3) and its catalytically study for synthesis of tetrahydro-chromenes was investigated. IRMOF-3 was found to be an efficient, selective and waste-free green solid base for the coupling reaction of dimedone, aldehydes, and malononitrile. The catalyst can be isolated from the reaction mixture and reused at least 5 times.
Graphical abstractCoordination polymers of Zn4O(H2N-TA)3 acts as a green catalyst for single-pot synthesis of tetrahydro-chromene derivatives and the desired products were obtained in high yields with short reaction time under solvent-free conditions. MOFs of Zn4O(H2N-TA)3 can be isolated from the reaction mixture and reused.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
