Abstract

The reaction of the bidentate Schiff-base ligands (3,4,5-MeO-ba)2en (L1) and (4-Me-ba)2en (L2) with Cu(SCN) in CH3CN yielded two copper(I) coordination polymers [Cu(L1)(SCN)]n (1) and [Cu(L2)(SCN)]n (2), which have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR- and 1H NMR-spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. The non-centrosymmetric structures of both Cu(I) complexes consist of an one-dimensional polymeric chain in which copper(I) ions are bridged by two thiocyanate groups bonding in an end-to-end fashion. The Cu(I)⋯Cu(I) separation is 5.604 Å in 1 and 5.706 Å in 2.

Graphical abstractFrom the direct reaction of (3,4,5-MeO-ba)2en (L1) and (4-Me-ba)2en (L2) with CuNCS in acetonitrile solution the neutral 1D copper(I) coordination polymers Cu(L1)(SCN)]n (1) and [Cu(L2)(SCN)]n (2) were prepared and characterized by elemental analyses and H NMR and IR spectroscopy. The crystal structures of 1 and 2 have been determined by X-ray diffraction and revealed the copper atoms are bridged alternately by end–end (EE) thiocyanato ligand.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
