Abstract

Sulfathiazole reacts in methanol with Zn(CH3COO)2 · 2H2O at 65 °C to give [{Zn(STZ)2(HSTZ)(H2O)}{Zn(STZ)2(H2O)2}3] · 12H2O. The asymmetrical unit of the new compound is assembled by four single partial complexes with a different number of ligand molecules. The deprotonated sulfonamidic nitrogen atoms of the STZ ligands do not participate in the coordination processes, and in the course of the reaction/recrystallization a noteworthy aggregation of water molecules to the end product arises. TGA experiments allow us to consider that the peculiar structure of the title compound can be related to a cluster “come down”, also because of uncontrolled absorption of water.
