Two 3D coordination polymers, {NiII(tp)(OHCH3)}n (1), and {CoII(tp)(phen)(H2O)}n (2) (tp = terephthalic dianion, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline), have been synthesized by self-assembly. The structure analyses show that both of the two complexes are formed by one-dimensional infinite chains through non-covalent interactions, but 1 is formed by one-dimensional straightforward chains, while 2 is based on one-dimensional zigzag ones. The photoluminescent study of the two complexes shows that they exhibit fluorescent emission bands at ca. 374 nm and 392 nm, respectively.
