Abstract
The X-ray structure of trans-4-cotinine-carboxylic acid, HL, shows that it is a zwitterion. The anion of L yields a new polymeric copper(II) complex, [CuLN3]2n, whose X-ray structure reveals a tape-like chain structure derived from [CuLN3]2 building blocks with μ1,1 end-on slightly asymmetric azido bridges. The polymer exhibits both very weak intramolecular intrachain and interchain antiferromagnetic exchange coupling.
