Cation control of dimensionality in isothiocyanate coordination polymers constructed from conformationally flexible 3,3′-bipyridine tethers

The hydrothermal synthesis and crystal structures of [M(NCS)2(3,3′-bpy)2] (M = Co, 1; M = Ni, 2) coordination polymers are reported. While 1 displays a stacked rhomboid grid 2-D layer morphology, 2 manifests doubly interpenetrated adamantoid 3-D frameworks and higher thermal stability.
