Abstract

•Five novel transition metal-based coordination complexes with edtza and (datza)2− ligands are reported.•Complexes 1–5 are described as binuclear structure and 2D frameworks with diverse architecture.•Five coordination complexes show emission at room temperature in the solid state.

Five new coordination compounds based on edtza or (datza)2− ligands [edtza = ethyl-[N2(N3),N2′-di(tetrazol-5-yl) amine] acetate and (datza)2− = [di(tetrazol-5-yl)] amine-N2(N3),N2′-diacetato anion] [Scheme 1], namely, binuclear cluster [Cd2(edtza)4(H2O)2]·2H2O (1) and 2-D polymers, [Ca(datza)(H2O)]·2H2O (2), [M(datza)(H2O)] [M = Co (3), Mn (4)] and [Sr(datza)(H2O)] (5) have been successfully synthesized. They were characterized by elemental analysis, IR and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The different crystal structures were controlled by not only the different coordinating and bridging modes of the edtza or (datza)2− ligands but also simultaneously the formation of complementary intermolecular hydrogen bonds. Furthermore, the luminescence properties of 1–5 were investigated at room temperature in the solid state.
