•Products of the phosphonium pentachloridooxidorhenates(VI) decomposition were crystallized.•Salts with [ReVOCl4X]− (X = solvent molecule) or [ReVOCl4ReVIIO4]2− anions are obtained.•Structure aspects, TGA and IR studies are presented.
Studies on decomposition of pentachloridooxidorhenates(VI) are described. The products are rhenium(V) salts with anions [ReVOCl4X]− (X = solvent molecule) or [ReVOCl4ReVIIO4]2− or, under proper conditions, hexachloridorhenates(IV), as well as salts with [ReOCl5]2− or [ReOCl4]− anions. The products are listed and characterized by X-ray diffraction studies, or TGA/IR in the selected cases.
