Abstract
The magnetic properties of a ferromagnetically-coupled spin-1/2 Heisenberg square layer and a tetranuclear spin-1/2 'butterfly' cluster have been investigated and comparisons made for modelling the behaviour of the layer along with a detailed discussion of the energy levels of the cluster.
