Abstract
Reaction of Co(CH3COO)2 with N,N-bis(phosphonomethyl)glycine (H5NTA2P) (pH â¼Â 5.5) led to the isolation of an unusual assembly of Co(II) species, bearing NH3/H2O and variably deprotonated H5NTA2P ligands. Analytical, spectroscopic and structural data project the diversity, complexity and variable nature of Co(II) species in the aqueous binary Co(II):H5NTA2P system speciation in the presence of ammonia, reflecting into biologically relevant chemistries and Co(II)-carboxyphosphonate materials.
