•Three new d10 pseudohalide complexes with quinoline-N-oxide are reported.•Compound 1 consists of discrete octahedral [Zn(quinoline-N-oxide)6]2+ and tetrahedral [Zn(NCS)4]2− complex ions.•Complex 2 forms polymeric chains via di-μ1,1 azide bridges.•Honeycomb-like layers are observed in the crystal structure of title complex 3.•The three compounds exhibit luminescence properties.
The synthesis and structural characterization of three new mixed d10 metal pseudohalide complexes with quinoline-N-oxide, namely [Zn(quinoline-N-oxide)6][Zn(NCS)4] (1), [Zn(quinoline-N-oxide)(μ1,1-N3)2]n (2) and [Cd(μ-quinoline-N-oxide)(μN,S-NCS)2]n (3) are reported. Single crystal structure determination reveals that 1 consists of isolated octahedral [Zn(quinoline-N-oxide)6]2+ complex cations and tetrahedral [Zn(NCS)4]2− complex anions. Coordination number 5 around the Zn(II) center is observed in the polymeric chains of 2, where azide groups act in the di-μ1,1 bridging mode. Honeycomb-like layers are formed in 3, where octahedral Cd(II) centers are bridged by the μO,O quinoline-N-oxide molecules and μN,S-isothiocyanate anions. The solid state luminescence properties of the title compounds 1–3 are reported.
Graphical abstractThree new complexes were structurally characterized with quinoline-N-oxide: [Zn(quinoline-N-oxide)6][Zn(NCS)4] (1), [Zn(quinoline-N-oxide)(μ1,1-N3)2]n (2) and [Cd(μ-quinoline-N-oxide)(μN,S-NCS)2]n (3). The luminescence properties of the complexes are reported.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
