Abstract

•Metal polymers of formula [M(isn-κNpy)4(μ-SiF6-κF,F′)]n have been synthesized.•SiF62− was generated in situ by attack of fluoride ions on the walls of glass.•The structure of the Cu-complex was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis.•These chains are connected and stabilized by network of supramolecular contacts.

A new family of linear metal polymers of formula [M(isn-κNpy)4(μ-SiF6-κF,F′)]n (M = Cu, Co, Ni; isn = isonicotinamide) have been synthesized and characterized. The authenticities of these polymers were characterized by elemental analysis, IR and electronic absorption spectroscopy and magnetic susceptibility, which suggested that all the three complexes possess a similar structure. The crystal structure of the Cu-complex was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction, showing that the compound is a backbone metal chain in which the metals are linked by a SiF62− bridges.
