Abstract

•Four new silver(I) supramolecular polymers were synthesized.•Their structures have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses.•The structures of coordination polymers 1–4 are all 3D supramolecular structures.•The pH of reactions plays an important role in the assembly of the polymers.•The photoluminescent properties of the coordination polymers were investigated.

Four new silver(I) supramolecular polymers, namely {[Ag2(2-Hstp)(bipy)]·H2O}n (1), {[Ag2(bipy)2]·(2-H2stp)·2H2O}n (2), {[Ag(2-stp)(bipy)][Ag(bipy)][Ag(bipy)]·6H2O}n (3) and {[Ag(2-stp)(bipy)][Ag(bipy)][Ag(bipy)]·10H2O}n (4) (2-NaH2stp = 2-sulfoterephthalic acid monosodium salt, bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine) were constructed from 2-sulfoterephthalic acid and 4,4′-bipyridine ligands. These compounds were also characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. In 1, two neighboring silver ions are bridged by nitrogen and oxygen in a syn-upright bridging mode, forming a 2D Ag network. The molecular structure of 2, 3 and 4 are cation–anion species, forming 3D supramolecular structures formed by hydrogen-bonding interactions.
