A new heterometallic compound, namely [CdBa2(m-BDC)2(DMF)4(NO3)2]n (1 m-H2BDC = isophthalic acid), has been successfully synthesized from m-BDC ligand and corresponding metal salts. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that 1 is a three-dimensional (3D) framework containing heterometallic trinuclear [CdBa2(COO)4] clusters as building subunits and can be simplified into a 4-connected dia net with the schäfli symbol of 66. Of particular interest is that it also features a rare 3D inorganic connectivity. Moreover, this compound exhibits strong yellow luminescence in the solid state at room temperature.
