Abstract
SAMs of Fe(C5H5)(C5H4)(CH2)4SH and [Ru(NH3)5NC5H4CH2NHCO(CH2)10SH](PF6), anchored to the Hg surface, show an ideal electrochemical behaviour indicating that SAMs are densely packed and Fe(II) and Ru(II) moieties are located at the external surface of the monolayer. [Ru(NH3)6](PF6)3 species are absorbed to the Hg surface via electrostatic interactions with a negatively charged SAM, formed by 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid at pH 7. A study of the voltammetric responses as a function of pH and electrolyte composition are reported.
