Abstract
Three alkaline earth metal (Mg, Sr, Ba) complexes of 6-methyl-2-pyridone have been prepared and characterised by X-ray crystallography. The complexes formed were found to have very different crystal structures. Structural highlights include a rare example of an Mg4O4 cubane cluster and a helical Sr-O polymer with elegant sixfold screw symmetry.
