Abstract

•The lamellar and virgulate Ba12F19Cl5 were obtained via a novel and simple method.•The as-synthesized surface exhibited superhydrophobic property.•The as-prepared glass and copper surface were stable under acidic or basic condition.

We present a novel and simple method for the preparation of superhydrophobic lamellar and virgulate Ba12F19Cl5. The results revealed surfactants and pH values which play important roles in determining the structure and morphology of the sample. The superhydrophobic surface was formed via a dip-coating technique. The superhydrophobicity of the as-prepared glass and copper surface were very stable under either acidic or basic conditions, and the maximum contact angle value was approximately 155°.

Graphical abstractUtilizing a hydrothermal method, pure lamellar and virgulate Ba12F19Cl5 were synthesized, respectively. The obtained powders became a thin film via dip-coating method. The contact angle of the modified Ba12F19Cl5 reaches 152° and 155°, respectively. And, the films showed that the superhydrophobicity of the as-prepared glass and copper surface are very stable under either acidic or basic conditions.Figure optionsDownload full-size imageDownload as PowerPoint slide
