Abstract

A partial three-dimensional crystal structure analysis of the complex [PdCl(C6H8Cl)]2 has established its structure. There are two molecules of the binucleaer complex in a monoclinic cell having a = 12·56, b = 6·02, c = 11·07 Å, β = 106·0° and space group P21n. The C6H8Cl group consists of C3H4 and C3H4Cl chains bridged by a normal single bond between their central carbon atoms; the π-system of the former is joined by coordinate bonds to Pd, so constituting an approximately normal planar complex with bridging chlorine atoms. The other chlorine atoms interact more weakly with those of palladium. The structure confirms that suggested by NMR.
